At 21 tracks across two LPs, Hymns To The Silence was Morrison’s first studio double album and is one of the most expansive records in his catalogue. It moves between blues, folk, soul, gospel and the deeply spiritual songwriting that characterised much of his work during this period. Produced and arranged by Lewis himself, the album features Cleveland Eaton on bass, Morris Jennings on drums and percussion, and Ed Green on percussion and electric violin. Highlights include the infectious opening track Kufanya Mapenzi (Making Love), the wonderfully atmospheric Serene Funk and the extended nine-minute Dreams. Lewis also delivers distinctive interpretations of Nights In White Satin, Betcha By Golly Wow! and Where Is The Love.
