These are some of the key identifying characteristics collectors look for when distinguishing the earliest UK issues of Abbey Road from the numerous later pressings. The rear sleeve features the famous misaligned Apple logo, positioned noticeably further to the left than on later corrected sleeves, while the track listing ends with The End, with the hidden closing track Her Majesty not yet credited. The runouts carry the correct early YEX 749-2 / YEX 750-1 matrices, together with 3 / APO on Side One and 4 / ODL on Side Two. Recorded during the final period in which all four Beatles worked extensively together in the studio, Abbey Road remains one of the defining albums of their career. Side One contains Come Together, Something and I Want You (She’s So Heavy), while Side Two includes Here Comes The Sun, Because and the celebrated closing medley. An increasingly desirable original UK copy with the key early sleeve and matrix characteristics intact.

Condition

Sleeve: VG(+)
The original fully laminated sleeve remains very presentable for its age. There is general storage and handling wear, including light edge and corner wear and some laminate-related ageing, but the sleeve retains a strong overall appearance. Most importantly, the rear retains the desirable early characteristics: The iconic front photograph remains bright and attractive and the sleeve displays particularly well for an original 1969 example.

Vinyl: VG visually / VG+ playback
The vinyl retains a good gloss but shows a number of visible light marks and hairlines from previous handling and play. For that reason, the record is being conservatively graded VG on visual appearance rather than VG+. Importantly, playback is noticeably stronger than the visual appearance would suggest and performs at approximately a VG+ standard, with strong, enjoyable audio throughout. A very good copy for somebody wanting an original first pressing to actually listen to, rather than a visually pristine example at a substantially higher price.

Please study all photographs carefully as they form part of the description and condition assessment.

Highlights

UK First Press – Misaligned Apple / No Her Majesty

Apple Records – PCS 7088

Side A: YEX 749-2 Side B: YEX 750-1 Mother / Stamper Codes: Side A: Mother 3 / Stamper APO Side B: Mother 4 / Stamper ODL

Sleeve VG(+) / Vinyl VG visually / VG+ playback

UK / 1969

Original 1969 UK first pressing

Track Listing

Side One
1. Buyers should expect some background occasional light clicks during playback, consistent with an honest VG (+) original mono pressing over 55 years old.

Please study all photographs carefully as they form part of the description and condition assessment.

Highlights

1968 UK Issue

Apple Records – PMC 7067 / PMC 7068

Matrix / runout information not recorded for this copy

Sleeve Covers VG+/ Spine G+ / Vinyl VG - Playback VG+

UK / 1968

Genuine 1968 UK first mono pressing.

Track Listing

Side One
1. Contemporary pressing references document CPRY 4543-3T / CPRY 4544-3T as the key early UK matrix combination. Released at the height of Bowie’s Ziggy-era success, Aladdin Sane developed the glam-rock sound of The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust into something harder, stranger and more heavily influenced by Bowie’s experiences touring America. Produced by David Bowie and Ken Scott, the album features Mick Ronson, Trevor Bolder and Mick Woodmansey alongside the extraordinary piano work of Mike Garson. The record contains an exceptional run of Bowie classics including The Jean Genie, Drive-In Saturday, Time, Panic In Detroit, Cracked Actor and the title track Aladdin Sane (1913–1938–197?). This is a particularly attractive early UK copy in strong overall condition, although a previous owner's name is present on the sleeve, inner sleeve and record label and is fully disclosed below. In this context, “matte” means the outer sleeve is unlaminated, with a comparatively flat card finish rather than the shiny laminated surface found on many 1970s LP sleeves. The early sleeve is specifically documented as a matte black-and-white picture sleeve with “Horses” printed in white at the upper right. Produced by John Cale and recorded at Electric Lady Studios in New York, Horses was Patti Smith’s debut album and contains Gloria, Redondo Beach, Birdland, Free Money, Break It Up and the extended Land suite. The iconic sleeve photograph was taken by Robert Mapplethorpe, making the original white-title UK issue particularly attractive as a period collector’s copy.

Condition

Sleeve: VG+
The original matte-finish, unlaminated UK sleeve remains in very good collector condition. The black-and-white Robert Mapplethorpe artwork remains strong and attractive, with the distinctive white “Horses” lettering clearly visible at the upper-right corner. There are general signs of previous storage and handling appropriate to the VG+ grade, but the sleeve remains a strong example of this sought-after early variation. Importantly, this is the correct matte/unlaminated first-issue sleeve, rather than a glossy or laminated cover.

Vinyl: VG+
The vinyl retains a good glossy appearance with light signs of previous handling and play. This copy carries the desirable original A-1U / B-1U matrices and features a documented label variation distinguished by its compact typography and an unusual printing error. On Side B, the songwriting credit for Cherry Red incorrectly identifies Tony McPhee as Tony McPhte. The label also features the tighter spacing between the engineer's credit and the first track, distinguishing this variation from other original UK issues. The original fully laminated gatefold sleeve is present, retaining its striking monochrome artwork and original-period presentation. Recorded at De Lane Lea Studios in November 1970 and produced by Tony McPhee, Split captures The Groundhogs at the height of their progressive blues-rock period. The album features the classic trio of Tony McPhee, Pete Cruickshank and Ken Pustelnik, combining heavy blues guitar, inventive arrangements and increasingly psychedelic influences. Side One comprises the remarkable four-part title suite, while Side Two features the celebrated Cherry Red, alongside A Year In The Life, Junkman and Groundhog. The album's distinctive combination of extended guitar passages, unconventional structures and raw blues-rock energy helped establish it as a defining release in the band's catalogue. A particularly attractive collector's example, featuring the original UK matrices, unusual misprinted label variation, fully laminated gatefold sleeve and excellent-condition vinyl.

Condition

Sleeve: VG++
The original fully laminated gatefold sleeve presents extremely well, displaying only light signs of previous storage and handling. This example features the original sailboat cover artwork and Hollywood pressing identification, making it a particularly appealing early edition of this celebrated jazz album. Miles Ahead marked the first major orchestral collaboration between Miles Davis and arranger Gil Evans. Featuring Davis on flugelhorn alongside a 19-piece orchestra, the album blends jazz improvisation with Evans' sophisticated arrangements to create a continuous, suite-like listening experience. The record includes memorable interpretations of The Duke, My Ship, Miles Ahead and I Don't Wanna Be Kissed (By Anyone But You). Its distinctive orchestration and Davis' expressive playing helped establish the creative partnership that would later produce Porgy and Bess and Sketches of Spain. This copy carries the early XLP41762-1D / XLP41763-1C matrices and retains the original sailboat sleeve, an important distinguishing feature of the initial US release.

Condition

Sleeve: VG
The original sailboat picture sleeve presents well for its age, with signs of handling and storage consistent with the assigned grade. One of the defining albums of early progressive rock, it opens with 21st Century Schizoid Man and also features Epitaph, Moonchild and the monumental title track. The classic front-laminated sleeve and black Brunswick labels complete an unmistakably original mid-1960s presentation, with a period poly-lined inner sleeve also present. One of the defining British rock albums of the 1960s, My Generation includes The Kids Are Alright, A Legal Matter, The Ox and, of course, the landmark title track My Generation.

Condition

Sleeve: VG+
The original front-laminated sleeve is in very good plus condition and presents extremely well for its age.
