This particular copy features the BB41082-01 A1/B1 matrix combination and is housed in the distinctive brown embossed picture sleeve. Importantly, this is the black-vinyl edition, not the clear-vinyl variant associated with the same catalogue number. Originally released in August 2011, The Rip Tide is Beirut's third studio album and represents an important development in Zach Condon's songwriting. Moving away from the more expansive Balkan and European folk influences of the band's earlier releases, the album presents a more intimate and refined approach while retaining Beirut's unmistakable brass arrangements, warm instrumentation and atmospheric melodies. Recorded primarily during the winter of 2010–2011, the album was produced by Zach Condon and Griffin Rodriguez. It combines trumpet, accordion, ukulele, piano and orchestral arrangements with beautifully understated vocals, creating a richly textured collection of nine songs. Highlights include the infectious Santa Fe, the beautifully arranged East Harlem, the atmospheric Goshen and the magnificent title track The Rip Tide. The album also features the evocative opening composition A Candle's Fire, with guest vocals from Sharon Van Etten. The distinctive brown sleeve features understated embossed artwork, an attractive example of the minimalist visual identity associated with this period of Beirut's catalogue. A particularly appealing collector's copy combining the identifiable UK matrix configuration, black vinyl and exceptionally clean EX+/EX+ condition.

Condition

Sleeve: EX+
The original-style brown embossed picture sleeve presents exceptionally well, retaining its distinctive artwork and excellent overall visual appeal. There is only minimal evidence of previous storage and handling, consistent with the EX+ grade. The understated embossed design remains particularly attractive, with the sleeve retaining a beautifully preserved appearance. A superb example with very little evidence of age-related wear.

Vinyl: EX+
The black vinyl retains an excellent deep gloss, displaying only the very slightest evidence of previous handling and play. Any visible surface marks are exceptionally light and superficial, consistent with the EX+ grade. The original Pompeii Records labels remain beautifully presented. The A1/B1 matrix configuration is clearly identifiable in the runouts. A particularly clean example of this UK pressing, sitting comfortably towards the upper end of the Excellent grading range.

Please study all photographs carefully as they form part of the description and condition assessment.

Highlights

UK Black Vinyl Edition – A1/B1 Matrices

Pompeii Records – POMP003

Side A: BB41082-01 A1 MK Side B: BB41082-01 B1 MK

Sleeve EX+ / Vinyl EX+

UK / 2011 (Album Release)

UK Pompeii Records pressing

Track Listing

Side One
1.
